Department of Electronic Science
The Department of was established in the year 1994 with combinations Physics, Mathematics and Electronics(PME). A second combination of Electronics, Mathematics & Computer Science(EMCs) started in the year 2000. The PG course in was incepted in the year 2010

Scope of the subject:

Students pursuing electronics have extensive career opportunities in fields like automation, remote sensing, hardware implementation using software tools, signal processing, embedded system, VLSI, wireless communication instrumentation etc. During the course of study, students gain the knowledge of both hardware and software aspects and there by gaining the freedom to choose in between.

Facilities:

  • IoT kits for projects on health monitoring system, industrial, agricultural, environmental monitoring and home energy management
  • Microwave benches, digital communication kits to perform the related experiments

  • To make teaching more interesting and lively, the department has acquired a DLP Projector with which multimedia presentations are made.
  • Use of Eagle software to design PCB layout for the projects IIT Bombay Virtual Labs has provided 10 CPLD kits for carrying out projects in the Department

BRIDGE COURSE:
To refresh the knowledge of previous course and bridge it with the present course, so that the journey of UG and PG courses is smooth and rewarding, bridge course is conducted every year. The syllabus for this course is meticulously designed accordingly.

Benefits of recycling

Recycling recovers valuable materials from old electronics that can be used to make new products. As a result, we save energy, reduce pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save natural resources by extracting fewer raw materials from the earth.

DEPARTMENT FESTS

TRANSIENT 2K19

Fest had competitions such as Tech-charades, Tech-talk, we pick you defend, Project Exhibition, code breakers, surgical strike, Tech hunt, group dance, solo singing  etc.

E-lamp was designed by undergraduate students and was used in the inauguration to mark the beginning of the event. Principal briefed the importance of technology. Main attraction of the event was talking- walking robot Ms. Oxfordite, she welcomed the dignitaries and audience. There was an astounding response to this fest from the fellow PG departments. A good number of teams participated in the events organized. The events like dumb charades word building –wordsworth,quiz, mobile gaming-mini militia etc were conducted

Science for Physically Challenged People

CHIEF GUEST: Padma Shri Dr. MalathiHolla, International Para Athlete from India.
This event was organized to build a platform for the materializing the ideas of the young minds.Dr. Malathi encouraged the participants to challenge themselves to a higher standard of work. She suggested many valuable improvisations on the projects which makes it compatible and facilitate the physically challenged people to lead a better and independent life. Her ideas and suggestions were successful in captivating the minds of the students.

NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY :
The science club ‘VIGNYANA SUDHA’-THE FLOW OF KNOWLEDGE, and ‘Raman’s and Curie’s Corner’- the science corner was formally inaugurated.
Honorable Principal-Dr.RKavyashree, Honorable Vice-Principal(Academics)-Dr.Bharathi.S, HonorableVice-Principal(Administration)-Mrs. Gayathri Sudhir performed the ritual of lamp lighting and addressed the gathering.

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS:

INTERNET OF THINGS
Resource Person: Mr.AkshayKulkarni

Mr.Kulkarni literally enriched the students with importance of implementation of strong basics in the Industries.  The program was successful in making the participants interpret on how sensors, microcontrollers, GSM module, electrical, internet under one umbrella makes internet of things see the light of the day. The guest speaker also spoke about wireless sensor network to implement, control of gadgets from the mobile internet.

IG, 2G, 3G,4G,5G TECHNOLOGIES IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION

The students were introduced to the stage by stage progress and evolution of telephones. The participants envisioned the challenges faced because of limited resource of bandwidth. The guest speaker elucidated on the breakthroughs achieved in technology to face the limitation of bandwidth and the ever-increasing demand for data speed.  The pros and cons of this facility to mankind was also discussed

GUEST LECTURES

TOPIC: FPGA
GUEST SPEAKER: Mr. ShivanandKoteshwar, Director-Engineeing, Mediatek
Students were taught the importance and background of Verilog and VHDL.

The connection between IC fabrication and VHDL, PAL, PLD, CPLD were the different topics dealt with. The importance and basics of these topics was very deliciously delivered

PROJECTS ON AURDUINO

GUEST SPEAKER: Mrs. Sona D
Mrs. SonaD who has worked on versatile software platforms, introduced AURDUINO to the students. The guest speaker demonstrated on how sensors like pressure sensor, push button, radioactivity sensor, smoke sensor, moisture sensor etc can be employed with AURDUINO for a desired output with real-time plot of response. The session was destined to help the students in their projects.

NANOTECHNOLOGY
GUEST SPEAKER: Dr. Ramesh Tamankar- Professor CMR University

Dr. Tamankar enlightened the students about the minute details about working with
nanomaterials. The lecture helped the students to understand this subject with more clarity. Dr. Tamankar shared his experience and expertise of working on nanomaterials at Singapore University.

PCB DESIGNING
Resource Person: Mr. Siddaraju, IISc Bangalore
Mr. Siddaraju shared the requisite skills required to be employable. The participants envisioned the necessity of appropriate understanding of concepts and its effective implementation. The lecture included information about the materials used to in PCB design, fabrication of multi-layered printed circuited boards.  The concept of resistance used as heater in devices which is notable. Students were guided about courses that can help them in their profession.

SOUND AND TECHNOLOGY
Resource Person: Mr. Pritham Kumar Dey, Proprietor, Nightingale Nest, Bangalore

Mr. Pritham, an Alumnus of the College, talked about the aesthetics in fusion of sound, music, Physics and Electronics. The speaker demonstrated the physics behind the playing of the disc with his self made record player, earlier played by the gramophones. The guest played a video created by him with Dolby Atmos effect in the seminar hall.

IN HOUSE PROJECTS
The department was Granted SPiCE(VGST)  sponsored Project titled ‘Image Encyption and Decryption using FPGA’

PROBLEM BASED LEARNING

TOPIC:  PROS AND CONS OF USING SATELLITE PHONE
Students discussed the benefits of having a Wide network coverage and uniform performance irrespective of the location. Being expensive and the large antenna size was the main draw backs to pay for it.

Programming and Interfacing in C++
Resource Person : Dr. J T Devaraju
Dr. J T Devaraju spoke about the importance of Templates, operator overloading which helped the PG students with the syllabus. Sir also enlightened the students about the intricacies of the topic and future scope in this field of research.

NEXT BIG INNOVATION LABS

The team from NEXT BIG INNOVATION LABS swayed the students to believe the versatility in applications of 3D Printing. Mr. George Paul and Mr.Saravana gave a presentation on the usefulness of this technology in the field of Bioprinting of skin and organs, body of aircrafts, machineries, body of automobiles, building of structures-like homes and offices. This technology makes the structures light weight and in automobiles can result in fuel efficiency , in the field of art and architecture- customized design provides flexibility. Mr. Alok also spoke about the possibility of making the world free of plastic, by recycling the plastics and converting them as an input to the 3D printer to be used for any application. Mr. Alok encouraged students to come of out with unusual ideas to make the best of this technology.

Two-day workshop on IoT&WSN
Mr.Sanketh from Nihon Communication Systems demonstrated on monitoring the different sensors using wireless sensor network. The students had hands on experience on monitoring signals from sensors, routing them through a sensor network via zolertia gateway to the server under the guidance of the Nihon team.

Two- day workshop on PCB DESIGN AND FABRICATION:

In the two day workshop, the UG and PG participants were exposed to both the software and hardware parts of PCB design.  The students designed and made their PCB individually during the workshop.

AURDUINO BASED REAL TIME PTOJECTS

The students could get hands on experience in interfacing LED FOR TRAFFIC SIGNALS, LCD, 7-SEGMENT DISPLAY, STEPPER MOTOR,GPRS FOR ANTI THEFT , GSM FOR GADGET CONTROL, HEART BEAT SENSOR WITH PULSE RATE DISPLAY with Aurduino boards.

SIMULATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF VERILOG
RESOURCE PERSON: Ms RAMYA H R

Ms RAMYA gave an exhaustive explanation to the students about structure of verilog module, designing digital circuits in verilog, and implementation on spartan 3e fpgakit.Students had hands-on experience in implementing the digital logic gates on FPGA kit.

VIRTUAL LABS
RESOURCE PERSON: Mr. Srikanthand Mr. Bivin, Sparsha Learning Technologies
The members of Sparsha Learning Technologies demonstrated the power and features of DoCircuits. The students were then guided on how to create an account to use the online simulator and simulate their own circuits to familiarize themselves with the interface and ask any questions about the product.

Interfacing of sensors with Arduino
RESOURCE PERSON: Ms. Manjula G
Resource person explained the Arduino programming language and IDE and the students programmed the Arduino microcontroller to make the circuits work, connected the Arduino microcontroller to a serial terminal to understand communication and stand-alone use.
