DEPARTMENT OF FASHION AND APPAREL DESIGN
The Department of Fashion and Apparel Design was established in the year 1999, it is affiliated to Bangalore University.It is a 3 year full term undergraduate Fashion Designing course, where it covers the study of specialized field in the area of fashion costume designing, accessory and jewelry design, fashion illustrations, Textile designing, etc.

VISION

  • Meeting the needs of the Fashion Industry& harnessing the skills of the budding designers is the main motto of this course at The Oxford College of Science.
  • The department seeks to nurture student’s career goals & give them knowledge and skills that will support them to function as responsible and contributing members of society.
  • The course encompasses rare combination of Technical, Creative and Industry specific subjects.

MISSION

  • The mission of the department is to impart contemporary, Industry specific & futuristic quality education in Textile, Garment and Fashion.
  • To prepare students for careers in Fashion & Apparel Design.
  • The department has a holistic environment where students and Faculty work together to realize the mutually beneficial yet socially and environmentally relevant deliverables.

FACILITIES:
Department of FAD haswell equipped and spacious laboratories:

  • Pattern making lab- Here the garment paper patterns are prepared by various methods. This facilitates preliminary works before the cloth is cut and sewn.
  • Textile & Wet processing lab-The raw material for garments, Fiber, Yarn and Fabrics are tested. They are subjected to wet processing in the lab level machineries for various treatments like Bleaching, Dyeing and Printing.
  • Sewing Lab- The selected fabrics as per the pattern are cut and sewn to produce three dimensional garments from the 2 D cloth Panels.
  • CAD Lab- This lab is equipped with the internet and the automation software like Gerber/Reach CAD to facilitate a designer to conceptualize a product by following, ideating, design generation, converting it to manufacturing details thus speeding up the whole process of idea to product using the software.
  • Fashion Design studio lab- Here the concepts of illustration are taught. Students learn to convey their product by illustrating/sketching the designs and assembling their portfolio theme.
  • Resources- Department has an assorted reading material collection in the form of books and journals.   

ACTIVITIES:

  • Students are taken to visit relevant industries, field visits to broaden their knowledge base of the arts, crafts and technology of fashion course.
  • Industry experts are called to address the students
  • Workshops like fevicryl, styling, Ornamentation are conducted by experts to give hands on training.
  • Student counseling and personality trainings are held
  • Annual portfolio presentation (fashion show) is held to show case the knowledge and skills of the passing out final year students, honed at the department.
  • Students showcase their skills in visual merchandising by theme based window displays
  • Department encourage the students to contribute to College magazine.  

BRIDGE COURSE
Here the students are induced and introduced to the course while building up relation between the students, faculty members and the subjects. The topics are comprehended and freshly introduced to the new batch every year before commencement of the first semester classes.

  • Students of 2018 batch has won 2nd prize in Deccan Herald Metro Life Fashion Show 2018 South Zonal round.
  • Ms. Apoorva Gupta is working as Assistant Fashion Designer with renowned designer ‘SabyasachiMukharji’, Mumbai.
  • Students of 2019 batch won 2nd Prize in Inter Collegiate Fashion Show at St. Francis de Sales College 2019, Bengaluru
