STATISTICS

The Department of Statistics was incepted in the year 2005 in order to prepare professionals in statistics.  The UG course was started in the year 2005 and PG course in the year 2010.

Scope:
Provide in-depth knowledge in Statistics in accordance with recent advances & research. Train students to be competitive enough to be employed in  the fields of Economics, Commerce, Industry, Trade, Agriculture, Physical Sciences, Bio- Sciences, Astronomy, Psychology and many more in India & abroad.

In present times, Statistics is used by almost all Ministries or Government departments like:
Finance, Agriculture, Defense, Industrial and many more.

Vision:
To produce committed competent, efficient and professionally trained Statisticians.

Mission:
To prepare the statisticians with good values, to import wisdom that will give an opportunity to enhance their ability to apply statistics in diversified areas and to take leadership role in the development of the country.

 Facilities:

  • The Department has a library with good number of books.
  • It has a computational lab with latest statistical software’s with internet facility.
  • The Department of Statistics facilitates the use of R, SPSS etc. and encourages the students to master thesesoftwares. Students learn to code and visualize using them.

BRIDGE COURSE
Bridge courses are classes that give you information from a basic course, to prepare you for a more advanced course, thus bridging between the basic and advanced courses. Prerequisites are foundational courses from your field of study, often at an undergraduate level, and often do not count toward graduation.

GUEST LECTURES

  • Prof. J. V. Janhavi, an Asst. Professor, Bangalore University delivered a guest lecture, She spoke on the topic “Time Series”.
  • Guest lecture Conducted on “Emerging trends in Basic sciences”by Prof. J. V Jahnavi
  • VinayShastry, Analyst, Indegene Life systems Private Limited delivered a guest lecture on “Career opportunities in Statistics”.
  • A Lecture on “Machine Learning and Data Analytics” by Mr. Nithin Kumar, Department of Statistics, TheOxford College of Science, Bangalore.

WORKSHOPS

  • A one day workshop was conducted by EPOCH SAS training institute for the Students on SAS BASE to enhance their programming abilities
  • One day workshop on Statistical programming using C++ by Ananda K.S
  • A one day workshop was conducted on ‘Exploratory Data Analysis using R Statistical software’by Dr. Prabhanjan N. Tattar, Business Analysis Advisor, Dell International Services, Bangalore.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS

  • The Department of Statistics organized an industrial visit for B. Sc. Students to “The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore”.
